About Us
Driver Rehabilitation was originally founded by Tammy Phipps and Joshua Himan.
Tammy developed and created the very first and only comprehensive driving program in the Department of Defense at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 2008.
Tammy was was able to take Josh’s situation and devise a plan that would get him back on the road. She guided him and his family throughout the entire process. From providing vehicle recommendations, auto adaptive equipment needs, follow up training, modification process and all the paperwork needed to get on the road. Today, Josh is blessed to be able to drive anywhere his heart desires.
That was a life changing moment for just one Wounded Warrior. Tammy has helped hundreds of severely injured warriors gain their independence back. Josh knew that people like him were all over the world. He knew that Tammy had a vision to help not just Wounded Warriors but everyone who who has adaptive mobility needs.
Together they formed the Driver Rehabilitation Center of Excellence, LLC in order to make Mobility Accessible to everyone.
Josh is a Marine who was severely injured from an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) while deployed during Operation Enduring Freedom. His injuries resulted in quadriplegia (paralysis from the chest down). After spending several years recovering/rehabilitating from his injuries, Josh attempted to explore his prospects to return to driving. He was seen by therapist after therapist who determined that he was capable of driving, yet no one was able to actually get him back to driving independently. Finally, he met an Officer named Major Tammy Phipps at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC.
